  ENVIROMENT

  CLIMATE
The Valle del Este is located in an area which receives around 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. The rainfall is somewhat scarce, with no more than 170 m3 a year. These conditions, together with the richness and variety of the vegetation in the area, have given rise to the development of various ecosystems, home to a great variety of species.

  SCENERY

The ochre and green tones of the Tabernas Desert, Alhamilla Sierra and Cabrera Sierra, contrast against the blue of the sea, along a coastline noted for its beautiful and spacious beaches. Playa Mar y Cielo beach, Las marismas, Pueblo Laguña, Puerto Rey and El Playazo,... together with the beaches of Mojácar, are the most accessible beaches from Valle del Este.

These beaches are characterised by fine sand and are well cared for. As a result, they have obtained the Blue Flag, awarded by the European Union to the best quality beaches.

  FLORA

Around Vera, three types of habitat can be distinguished:

The habitat found in humid areas, such as beaches or rivers where the vegetation that has developed serves as a home to steppe birds and low flying birds.. The flora along the coastline includes the silver coloured thistle, lavender...

The Antas river basin with a steppe area - a desert where there are different species such as the Jujube trees of the Honda ravine and those of Jatico. There is a small lagoon at the mouth of the river where reed beds and bulrushes have developed.

Cabecicos Negros and El Pajarraco..., make up the third large habitat, where the predominant vegetation is the white asparagus and the European Camarulla - the only species of European
cactus.

  FAUNA

The climatic diversity has meant that a great variety of fauna inhabits the area. We therefore can find species that are typical of coastal areas living side by side with mountain species, in an unusual balance.

The fox, rabbit, stone curlew, eagle owl, dormouse, wild boar, flamenco, heron, stork, red crested pochard.. are just some of the species that inhabit this environment, as well as countless migratory birds that make a resting place here during their journey from Europe to Africa.
